Diisopropyl Adipate (DIPA) is a colourless, transparent specialty chemical. It has become widely popular in applications like moisturisers, sunscreens, shaving lotions and cleaning agents. DIPA serves as a non-oily emollient on the skin surface that gives a smooth and soft appearance. In this blog, we discuss everything you need to know about Diisopropyl Adipate.
Diisopropyl Adipate (DIPA) is a colourless to light yellow liquid at room temperature. It is insoluble in water but soluble in organic solvents. It belongs to the ester derivatives and exhibits the general properties of esters along with a pleasant odour. This specialty chemical is typically used as an organic synthesis intermediate and as a pharmaceutical raw material, fragrance essence. Mamta Polycoats is a Diisopropyl Adipate manufacturer in India offering high-quality DIPA tailored for your specific applications. Whether cosmetic, suncare or pharmaceutical, we cater to all requirements.
DIPA has a low molecular weight and density, high thermal stability, and a specific degree of polarity. With versatile & beneficial structural properties of Diisopropyl Adipate find applications in various applications including cosmetics, personal care products, coatings, plastics, and pharmaceuticals. This compound undergoes ester exchange reactions in which it reacts with alcohol compounds to produce new ester compounds.
A finely powdered sodium carbonate is mixed with distilled thionyl chloride in a round-bottom flask at room temperature.
The formed powder is gradually added to a solution of adipic acid.
This reaction mixture is heated to a reflux & mixed for two hours under reflux conditions.
Once the reaction is complete, the reaction mixture is put into the diluted solution of sodium carbonate (10%) until the pH level reaches 9 and is extracted with Dichloromethane.
The organic layer is dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate & the solvent is evaporated under minimum pressure to achieve the desired compound.
Pharmaceutical:In the pharmaceutical field, DIPA is used as an excipient for the preparation of oral formulations, injections, soft capsules and other formulations.
Suncare:Mamta Polycoats offers newly formulated DIPA that is smooth, lightweight and has a non-greasy texture for suncare products.
Cosmetic Products:It is used for the synthesis of cosmetic raw materials like emulsifiers, moisturisers and conditioners.
